How This Calculator Works
This calculator estimates the total cost of a bathroom remodel by combining eight individual cost categories: vanity & sink, toilet, tub/shower, tile, plumbing, electrical & lighting, paint & drywall, and flooring.
Finish levels determine the quality and price tier of materials and fixtures. Budget remodels use stock fixtures and basic materials. Mid-range remodels use semi-custom pieces and upgraded tile. Upscale remodels feature custom cabinetry, natural stone, frameless glass, and designer fixtures.
Bathroom size affects area-dependent costs like tile, flooring, and paint. Fixture costs are relatively fixed regardless of room size, which is why small bathrooms have a higher cost per square foot.
Regional multipliers adjust for local labor and material costs. States are grouped into four tiers: Low cost (rural South/Midwest, 0.85×), Average (most states, 1.0×), High (Northeast/West Coast, 1.15×), and Very High (NYC metro, Hawaii, Alaska, 1.30×).
